Juttah means (stretched out ), was a town in ancient
Palestine. According to the Bible, the town was made a priestly city. It is
identified with modern day Yatta, which is located on a high about 10 km south
of Hebron - in the mountain region of Judah, in the neighborhood of Maon and
Carmel. (Joshua 15:55)-. It is supposed to have been the residence of Zacharias
and Elisabeth, and the birthplace of John the Baptist, and on this account is
annually visited by thousands of pilgrims belonging to the Greek Church (Luke
